Kratom is the common name for Mitragyna Speciosa, a tropical evergreen tree in the coffee family native to Southeast Asia. Kratom is prepared by harvesting leaves from a mature tree, drying and removing the stem and vein, and then grinding the leaves into an ultra fine powder.
Vein Color
Kratom is divided into three types based on leaf vein color, which is further subdivided by strain. The three vein types are white, green, and red vein. The general rule of thumb is that whites are the most energetic, reds are the most relaxing, and greens are a combination of relaxing and energetic.
Strain
Strain types are generally named based on geographic origin. For example, White Bali indicates that the powder is a white vein that originates from Bali, Indonesia.
Which Strain is Right for You?
Strain preference is very individual as each strain has a different proportion of active alkaloids. Since every person has a unique biochemical makeup, one person may react well to a specific strain while another may not. The only way to determine which strain is right for you is through trial and error. Many people like to rotate strains to reduce tolerance buildup. Since each strain has a variation in alkaloid content, this means each strain hits different receptors or hits the same receptors with varying potency/affinity/efficacy. By rotating strains it prevents your body from getting used to any one strain. If you are struggling with tolerance it can be a good idea to rotate every 4-6 weeks!
How to dose kratom?
As a new user, start with one teaspoon of plain leaf powder and gradually work your way up depending on individual preference and tolerance. Less is more when you are a new user!
